Covid-19, WCYBA and How You Are Affected

Prior to signing up for registration, please take the time to read through our guidelines as these may directly affect your decision on whether you sign up your child(ren) for this years season.

We want to be as clear and up front as possible this season as we are facing significant barriers to playing games. While we want everyone to enjoy themselves, we must protect our players, fans, and especially older or more susceptible individuals.

WCYBA is again renting facilities for all basketball games and as such, due to state, local, school, and business restrictions, WCYBA must comply with the following rules during games:

Team Rules

  • No more than 2 coaches and 1 adult at scorekeeper table per team.
  • All coaches and scorekeepers must wear masks or appropriate facial covering at all times. Anyone not able to wear a mask for any reason should not attend.
  • Teams will enter gym no more than 10 minutes before game time to warm up. No fans allowed at this time, WCYBA will be cleaning the facility between games.
  • Teams will not shake hands after a game.
  • Player must wear masks when not actively playing.
  • All 3rd grade boys and above games will have 2, 20 min periods with a running clock which DOES NOT stop at timeouts. Clock will run normally for the last 2 minutes of each game.
  • All 2nd grade and 3rd grade girls will still play 4 quarter with 8 minute running clock.
  • Equipment and all personal items should be separated and not shared with the exception of shared basketballs, which will be wiped with alcohol every 15 minutes.

Spectator Rules

  • Only 2 adults per player are allowed in the facility.
  • Fans may need to pass a temperature check and answer a series of questions regarding COVID exposure and symptoms. Anyone experiencing symptoms, including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestions or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea, must stay home.
  • Fans must wear masks at all times, from when they approach the screening tables to when they leave and are outside of the gym. Anyone unable to wear a mask for medical reasons should not attend.
  • Family members can sit together, otherwise people need to sit at least 6 feet apart. Benches may be cordoned off to ensure social distancing.
  • Failure to comply with these rules will result in immediate suspension of the game, ejection of all fans and players, and forfeiture of the game by offending team. Fans and players may be suspended for more than one game, up to the entire season, as determined by the WCYBA enforcement committee.

Player Registration Rules

  • The elementary schools are not available this year and gym costs will more than double as we’re using private gyms for both games and practice. We will need to make some significant changes for the 2021 season.
  • Registration fees will be $125 per player for the first player in a family, $110 for the second, $90 for the third player, and free after that.
  • Teams are responsible for $30 every game paid to a referee. WCYBA will not pay any referee fees this year.
  • Practice times will be limited to 1 practice each week for 1 hour each practice. We will try to schedule teams of the same grade on shared courts for scrimmages if possible.

Practice Rules

  • Only coaches and players are allowed in gyms. Parents must wait outside. 6th grade and above will be allowed drop off and pick up.
  • All players must be dropped off at the door to the gym with a coach and at the end of practice the coach will supervise pickup.
  • Teams must wait until the previous team has left the gym to enter.
  • Parents and players will be asked a series of screening questions before entering the gym. Anyone experiencing symptoms, including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or bady aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestions or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea, must stay home.
  • Coaches will wear masks at all times.
  • Players will wear masks when not on the court.
  • No congregation before or after practices or games.
  • Equipment and all personal items should be separated and not shared with the exception of shared basketballs, which will be wiped with alcohol every 15 minutes.

SYMPTOMS AND POSITIVE COVID TESTS

Any player who tests positive for COVID-19 will be quarantined until symptom free for 10 days and released to play basketball by a physician.
